When Is It Time for Weight Loss Surgery?
Weight loss surgery is not to be taken lightly. As we’ve stated before, it is not a magic potion that works and lets you off the hook. Weight loss surgery is just the beginning of a journey toward a healthier you. If you’re not sure if surgery is the right next step in your weight loss journey, take a look at the criteria below.
It’s Time For Weight Loss Surgery When:
- BMI over 40
- BMI of 35 with:
- Sleep apnea
- Arthritis
- Diabetes
- Hypertension
In general, anyone with a BMI of 30 or greater should begin thinking about ways to come under 30. This does not have to mean weight loss surgery, but it should mean rigorous exercise and a change in diet. It definitely means consulting with a health professional and beginning some kind of weight loss journey with the support of loved ones.
Once you’ve decided to take the step toward weight loss surgery, your journey is just beginning. While all weight loss surgeons may do things a bit differently, the following next steps are taken at Dr. Fass’ office.
